dc.description.abstract1. Examine phylogenetic relations among the species of Orestias present in the Altiplano, using a combination of characters (morphology, mitochondrial and nuclear DNA) and assess the validity of previously proposed complexes 2. Propose probable evolutionary scenarios (allopatry, ecological speciation), which have led to the current diversity of this group. Assess level of hybridation between morphs. 3. Compare the morphological differentiation rates associated with speciation type; sympatric/adaptive (Titicaca species) and allopatric (Altiplano Sur species). 4. Identifies lineage exchanges (colonization, emmigration) between the Titicaca lake and the altiplano matrix.
